There hasn’t been a decent update in a while. It’s been incredibly busy at work. I’m at the office right now, writing this during renders. I showered here this morning because I wanted to get here as quick as possible to start working. I guess I should talk a bit about how the job has been going for the last couple months.
I’m loving the job. They have hired a web developer, which is good, now I don’t have to keep getting bugged about doing site changes. After the NHL game, we took a really easy week to come up with a look for this year, which was alot of fun.
Truth is, I never really watched hockey, or any sports for that matter. I didn’t even play any sports except soccer when I was 11 (I was more into Video Games and the Arts.) I thought this would be a huge deal, and could have cost me the job, but it actually has worked out really well, because I don’t get distracted when my producer watches sports in the office.
Although after going to my first NHL game, I realized that live sports is a tad more fun. I doubt I’m ever going to become a huge sports fan, like everyone else in this place (seriously, they have a fantasy hockey, football, and baseball pool going on here at the same time.) although I hear that we traded time with the people who work at the football stadium, so we get to play flag football there one afternoon. I REALLY need to start getting some physical activity now and again. I’m skinny thanks to my genes, I don’t eat the right quantity or quality of food that is going to make me larger. But getting winded from brushing your teeth isn’t the greatest feeling in the world.
I’m quite happy with the work I’m producing, as are my co-workers. I get to experiment quite a bit with my stuff, as I don’t want to repeat the designs of years prior.
The only problem right now is how much I’m here. I’ve been in the office every day this week, till one in the morning on some nights. This isn’t a big surprise, when I was going through the interview process, they told me that there would be huge amounts of overtime involved in the job. And once I got the job, everyone told me how it really worked…
“Yeah, this isn’t a ’9 to 5’ thing, this a ‘work until the graphics are done, and then take a couple days off the week after’ thing.”
The reason it is so busy is this: we have certain graphics that will be used all year long (video head shots of the players, corporate ads, etc.) and there are quite a few (READ: a God damned lot of) graphics to produce, and they ALL have to be done for the first game. After that, its just updating stats here and there, and corporate ad stuff. Apparently off-season is very relaxed.
Well, I’ve finished most of what I wanted to get done today. I’ll be in here tomorrow @ 9. This stuff is going to look awesome on Thursday, but until then I’m getting no sleep.

That said, it’s good to hear that you’re enjoying the job. If you’re putting in that much overtime and you’re not threatening to burn the building down, things must be going well.
