Montreal: Day 1

Montreal was a blast.

First Day: Getting Acquainted
Once we had checked into our hotel, we ventured off onto the streets of St. Catherine, and downtown Montreal. It’s like Osborne Village, but bigger, and more awesome. We located the shops we would visit at a later time (we decided early on that we would go shopping on the last day, so we wouldn’t be tempted to spend all our food money.) One thing neither of us were prepared for: Walking. Lots and lots of walking. Not just regular walking though. Uphill walking. Apparently, there are hills in Montreal, something I’m not used to. Also, walking. I’m not really use to that since I graduated. Now, walking consists of 20 paces from bed to computer to fridge to computer to bed. I was using muscles I didn’t know I had. We walked to a record store where we found a friend of a friend who gave us info for what was happening around town that week: which turned out to be nothing. We walked around downtown Montreal all afternoon.

The first night was a little weird. We weren’t sure what we should be doing. Neither of us had really traveled in an un-structured way before, so we decided to just walk up and down St. Catherine’s some more. We bought a bottle of crown royal and went back to the hotel to have a drink. Turns out, across the street from our hotel, is a pub that has live bands every night. Jazz, Rock, whatever. Awesome.
