I found a copy of the 7th Harry Potter book online a couple days ago. This is the same leak that has been the cause of all the spoiler videos. I was conflicted at first, on whether or not I should download the book, then I remembered that JK Rowling is the richest woman in Scotland. She desperately needs my 40 bucks as much as I desperately need her millions.
The book is both the best of, and a fitting end to the series. Although let me say this: I have no idea how the movie is going to turn out. (unless Spielberg directs, even then it’s dicey.)
And now comes the fun part, holding this information above peoples heads, even spoiling the ending for people as I see fit. Until the book is released, I’m a god among nerds.
Of course I jest (READ: am not joking at all.) However, my sister will be one of the people in line when the book comes out in a couple days. I may go with her, video camera in tow, in hope I can capture a drive-by spoiling.
I’ve often wondered if knowing a secret can truly ruin a good book or movie. I mean, by the time I watched Starwars, it had been parodied so many times in culture that I knew (DUM DUM DUMMM!) that Darth Vader is in fact, Luke’s father. The same thing happened with the movies Se7en and Silence of the Lambs. I still liked the movies though. And really, if any book or movie relies solely on one twist in the story to make it entertaining, is it really that great in the first place? (I’m looking at you, every M. Night Shyamalan thriller ever made.)
