Torq Xponent: The Adventure

10 July 2007, 02:05 | ,

Alright, today’s the day. I finally got the call saying my Torq Xponent
was in. So I went in, headed straight to the DJ/Electronics section, and started playing with the various synths. This, of course, is the single fastest way to get some help in a music store. So, one of the usual DJ clerks comes over and asks me if I need any help. I’ve been in this store almost 50 times, playing with these synths, seeing that guy, and walking out without so much as even feigning interest in buying something. This is the first time ever I can say “Yes, I would like to buy some items from your establishment.” The guy died. Literally. From shock. He died. An ambulance came and got him, and took him away, and then I went on with my journey. I grab the Axiom and walk towards the front counter. Thats where I see it. The Torq Xponent, in the shipping box. Even with its shell on, its beautiful. So I go to pay for it, and obviously, as explained before in other posts, I don’t have a full time job right now. Meaning, this thing is going on the stores great finance plan. Seriously, I’m paying a very small amount more to take it home right now as apposed to several months from now when I have the full cash amount. I pay, and walk out with my Xponent and Axiom.

Here it is, the time I’ve been waiting weeks for. I put the boxes down on my bed, and carefully open the Torq. Opening the box, I see it, the white, pink and grey colors of the Troq. I slowly lift the product box up and hold it up high. What a glorious sight. I glance down. There is another white, pink and grey Torq sitting at the bottom of the shipping box. I quickly remember the store clerk saying weeks ago that they were only getting two Torqs in. I have the only two Torqs in Winnipeg right now, and I got one of them for free.

My first thought is “ZIP-PA-DEE-DOO-DAA! ZIP-PA-DEE-EH! OH MY WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!”
Followed by “I’m going to jail.”
Followed by “W.W.J.D.?”
Followed by “He’d probably sell it, and give the money to poor people.”
Followed by “Well, I’M a poor person…”
Followed by “I know, I’ll hold it for ransom!”

So I get on Skype and call up the music store. I finally get to the clerk’s voice mail. I leave a sassy message, telling him what happend, dropping a couple references to my “saint-like honesty…” and how maybe they could “slide me a new keyboard stand for my Axiom…” I hang up and go upstairs. When I come back, I have a message:

“Hey Rylaan,
Wow thats weird. The guy in the back seriously just gave it to me and said “Yeah, this is his!” Thanks so much for telling us. Bring it in tomorrow, and will do something for you.”

Score. I mentioned a keyboard stand in the message, however I know find that my Axiom rests quite nicely on my desk shelf. I may just ask for 20% off what I owe them. They really don’t need to give me anything, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Okay, I’ve been dealing with with my duplicate Torq, and have been ignoring the original Torq, not to mention my new keyboard. I quickly run downstairs, open the box, and remove the plastic.

I install all the drivers and install the Torq program. I plug the Xponent in, and turn it on. The buttons all light up. I start up the program. I throw MSTRKRFT’s Easy Love on the right deck, the program instantly reads the mp3, beatmaps it, and shows the bmp. I throw Justice’s D.A.N.C.E on the left track. The next 8 hours are a compete blur. But somehow I learn how to use the equipment I’ve purchased. I only realize how late it’s become when a friend of mine comes over to check out the Torq. It’s awesome. I think this is the start of something great.

I will write about the Return of the Torq, and a Torq: Review, as well as a review of the Axiom 61. I didn’t even get a chance to touch it today.
